Laurence is an RMT with a special interest in stress reduction, TMJ, and neck and shoulder pain and tension, and has experience with conditions such as EDS, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, and Thoracic-outlet Syndrome, as well as tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and sports injuries. Laurence works with patients to create a customized treatment to suit their unique needs and to help them to develop the tools to maintain their health between sessions. Utilizing a wide variety of techniques, including myofascial, deep tissue, and active release. Laurence’s goal is for his patients to leave feeling not just physically better, but also an active and informed collaborator in caring for their body and health. He believe’s in patient-centred care, which means putting my patient’s comfort and safety first. Laurence decided to become an RMT for two primary reasons: first, because he realized that there were many people in his community (especially those who are queer and/or disabled) who were unhappy with their healthcare, feeling that their concerns were often dismissed and that their needs weren’t being met. Second, he has always wanted to be a healer in some capacity, and takes deep personal satisfaction in being able to help others hands-on and be an integral part of improving their quality of life. What does his process look like? When he first meets with a patient, you’ll spend some time discussing concerns and general health. Then, perform some assessments, which can include special tests, range of motion, palpation (feeling the muscle tone, finding tender spots, etc.), and so on. Once he has all the information he needs, you’ll discuss what treatment would be most effective, integrating patient requests and any accommodations. Laurence will check in often with the patient during treatment, and adjust the treatment as required. Afterwards, you’ll discuss how the patient found the treatment, how they feel, perform any necessary re-assessment, and go over home-care that will help the patient between sessions. Laurence looks forward to meeting you, and working with you to achieve your health goals!
