Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a specialised, gentle type of massage and an important part of lymphedema treatment. It incorporates rhythmic circular movements and stretch/release of the skin to stimulate lymph flow to encourage the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart.
