Amy Prescott (she/xe) is a Registered Physiotherapist who earned a Master of Science in Physiotherapy from Dalhousie University in 2024. Prior to this, xe graduated with a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Biology from Acadia University in 2018. Amy’s interest in pelvic floor physiotherapy was sparked during her time at the Halifax Sexual Health Centre, where she recognized a pressing need for expanded pelvic health practices. Amy’s approach to physiotherapy emphasizes comprehensive assessments that consider the many determinants of health influencing a client’s condition delivered through a trauma-informed lens. As a genderqueer physiotherapist, Amy has been an advocate for expanding gender-affirming services within healthcare. Xe has had the opportunity to present on gender-affirming care in physiotherapy at the 2024 Canadian Physiotherapy Association Congress, for the Gender Affirming Care Providers of Nova Scotia, in addition to many others. As a member of the Queer Physiotherapy Collective (QPC), xe is committed to fostering inclusive care environments and hopes to enhance access to pelvic floor and orthopedic physiotherapy for all individuals. In her current practice, xe has a special interest in providing pre- and post-operative care for patients accessing gender-affirming surgeries, in addition to creating more welcoming movement spaces for members of the 2S/LGBTQIA+ community . Amy also holds a position on the Nova Scotia Physiotherapy Association’s Board of Directors and organizes the physiotherapy program at the Halifax Sexual Health Centre. Outside of her physiotherapy practice, Amy enjoys her own personal Pilates practice, crafting, dungeons and dragons, cooking, amateur astronomy and occasionally running. This will help ensure you receive timely follow-up and can get an appointment at a time that is convenient for you.* Your initial Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy Assessment will consist of a comprehensive medical history and physical exam. This will often include an examination of the low back, pelvis and hips, as well as an internal pelvic exam in order to diagnose and plan the best treatment. You may also be given some exercises to work on at home. It is VERY IMPORTANT that at the time you book an assessment, you also book a follow-up appointment for 1 to 2 weeks later, if possible. Your therapist will discuss treatment frequency during the assessment. If you cannot find a spot in this time period, please call and we will try to find a time for you.
