I knew I wanted to be a massage therapist from early on. I was not only interested in the way our bodies function, I was also intrigued by the power of caring human touch- the way a simple touch from a friend or loved one has the ability to unwind us mentally and physically. Caring touch is so basic and so important but it is easily forgotten about. The ability to bring touch into people's lives was and still is the most appealing aspect of this profession to me. In August 2012 Igraduated from the Connecticut Center forMassageTherapy where I was trained inSwedish and deep tissue techniques, myofascial release, and sports massage. My goalduring each massagesession is to create a space for a client where the mind and body are able tolet goandwhere awareness is encouraged to shift from next week's to-do list and back home into the body and into the present moment. This is the space where the client can do his/her best healing. My style is generally a blend of Swedish, deep-tissue, and myofascial release techniques because each modality has it's own unique benefits; when combined, they make for a complete-feeling massage that is both effective and soothing. I understand that the term "deep-tissue" is daunting for many people. Sometimes it is necessary to access deeper layers of muscle tissue in order to facilitate change andto helprestore balance to the musculoskeletal system. This does not mean, however, that a client need be in teeth-gritting pain for an hour or more. In fact, that level of discomfort is counterproductive. During a deep-tissue session I will work gradually into the muscle tissue while checking in regularly with the client to make sure that he/she is comfortable. If he/she is experiencing discomfort, or ifon the other hand the client feels he/she could use some more pressure, I am always glad to adjust my pressure in either direction. I never work by a routine or with an agenda. I understand that each of my clients is a unique person with unique needs, preferences, and a specific level of comfort. It is a priority of mine to remain mindful of these things duringmy client's custom-fit session. Looking forward to meeting you!
Massage oil or cream is used with smooth, gliding strokes. Swedish massage uses firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and create other health benefits. It is a classic massage that will ease your stress and allow you to slip into a calm state of relaxation.
