Darquin is a licensed Acupuncturist with a Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from MCPHS University (formerly New England School of Acupuncture). He originally began his career with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, practicing for three years in the retail sector. After witnessing a myriad of side effects from common medications, he had a rediscovered interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) which often has minimal side effects and has been known to cure certain ailments that western medicine has historically struggled to treat. Darquin utilizes his extensive knowledge of both styles of medicine to synergistically enhance treatment efficacy. With the pharmacy degree, he can identify and help manage adverse drug reactions that may contribute to the patient’s condition. Darquin’s background can also help him to identify key areas of focus as well as prescribing of custom formulas that do not interact with current medications. When you arrive for your first acupuncture appointment you and your provider will discuss your condition, and your pulse and tongue will be examined, which are two of the basic diagnostic methods of Oriental medicine. The acupuncture points chosen will depend on your condition, but you can expect approximately 20 needles. Once the needles are inserted, you are left to lie comfortably for 15-20 minute increments with the needles in place. Many people find acupuncture treatment deeply relaxing, and it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during this time. At the end of the treatment, adjunctive therapies may be used, such as gua sha, cupping, or tui na.
