Laura graduated with a Masters in Osteopathic Manual Therapy diploma from the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy. She chose to study osteopathy over other manual therapies because she has personally experienced how efficient, gentle, and effective osteopathy is for over 20 years. Her first experience with osteopathy was arriving with crutches and an air cast for a sprained ankle, then being able to walk out of the office after one treatment with no crutches or cast. Since then it has helped with everything from concussions and muscle injuries, to digestive issues and menstruation pain when no other therapies provided lasting relief. She is ecstatic that she now gets to share this holistic care with her communities to help them have less pain, more energy, and more good days. Outside of her professional work, things that bring her joy are climbing in squamish, hiking on the north shore, travelling, and spending time with animals. She lives in North Vancouver, BC. What is Osteopathy? Osteopathy takes into account the whole body. It is an objective, science-based manual therapy that is rooted in anatomy and physiology. Discovered in the late 1800’s by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, osteopathy works on the principle that structure and function of the body are interrelated. If the structure (anatomy) is off balance, the function (physiology) will be altered. By restoring balance between the structures of the body, the body can then continue the healing process with its natural ability to self-heal and self-regulate. Osteopathy treats the cause of your pain, not just the symptoms you experience. If only the symptoms are dealt with, the discomfort will keep coming back. With a finely tuned sense of touch (palpation) developed over thousands of hours of practice, Laura finds and fixes the root cause of your pain or dysfunction so that symptoms disappear naturally. This is done by gently manipulating joints, muscles, fascia, and neurovasculature pathways back to structural balance through an osteopathic treatment process. Oftentimes discomfort can be resolved in fewer treatments and have longer lasting results than other manual therapies. Because each body is always changing, every treatment is unique to the individual. For more information on Osteopathy, visit Laura’s website www.lauramillerosteopathy.com Email: [email protected]
