While pursuing his Bachelor of Kinesiology at the University of Alberta, and competing as ani injury prone track and field athlete, Stephen learned the importance of therapy in his life. He noticed it wasn’t just for the benefit of performance, but firstly for benefit of ones health. Fast forward to coaching in the same sport, Stephen wanted to be able to implement real time therapy alongside their training sessions. He thus began his education in Manual Osteopathy at the National Manual Osteopathic College and has been practicing since 2017. After graduating Stephen has taken further education in visceral manipulation (VM1, VM2, VM4), craniosacral therapy (CS1, CS2), Functional Movement Screen (FMS1), Selective Functional Movement Assessment ( SFMA1, SFMA2), Total Body Balancing (TBB1, TBB2, TBB3), Lymphatic Balancing (TBLB1), Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT1, NKT2), and Kinesio Taping (KT1, KT2, KT3). A session with Stephen will typically be a head to toe assessment, breaking down posture and movement patterns, and getting an overall map of the tension that is currently existing in your body. Sensorimotor testing is used to ask your body to identify the main structural stressors that are contributing to your pain or discomfort ( the area identified sometimes quite distant from is ailing you). This helps us determine if we need specific treatment to an area of your body or if we will generalize our treatment to a broader region. Treatment can be quite varied depending on wether we find the issue to be muscle, bone, joint, nerve, vascular or fluid dynamics, and the type of adaptation these tissues are in. Finally, you will typically have some post treatment care to do that continues the therapeutic affects of our treatment after you leave the clinic. In his spare time, Stephen is usually working on the never ending renovations on his house or learning to skateboard. When you’re not thinking about what holds you back, you’ll begin to know what pulls you forward.
