Meet Wendy I have over 30 years of manual therapy experience, initially as a physiotherapist and recently more than ten years as a manual osteopath. I am continuously studying the human body - its skeletal, myofascial, visceral and neuro vascular interconnectedness. I am passionate about the intricacies of the body’s anatomic structure and the energies connecting it. I believe that an effective human being is a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts and that all things are connected. If all parts are in balance with each other, efficiency is maximised, health is optimised, and the mind, body & soul are freer to reach their full potential. The body has an innate, natural ability to self-regulate and heal itself. Physical imbalances and strains to structure, caused by emotional or physical trauma or life’s daily stresses, impair your body’s ability to maintain itself in a state of optimal health. With gentle encouragement and a firm vision of what is possible, your body can be rebalanced; strengthening the connection to your inner source of health and freedom. Wendy’s Osteopathic Manual Therapy Approach Do you require a treatment that moves your body in a gentle fashion and releases deep inner tensions. Wendy performs gentle soft tissue releases & mobilisations that promote a relaxing & healing response in the body. Gentle approaches help the body transition from a “fight/ flight” (sympathetic) state to a “rest digest heal” (parasympathetic) state. Her approach is good for anyone seeking a deep gentle experience, also appropriate for people who cannot tolerate manipulative (fast snap) treatment due to arthritic or bone conditions, age or joint laxity (pregnancy, injury or fascial syndromes). The aim is to reach beyond your symptoms and get to the inner source of dysfunction. Attaining and maintaining your full potential sometimes requires a team approach. Integrating different forms of treatment and health activities works well (e.g. physiotherapists, massage therapists, acupuncturists, naturopaths, pilates & yoga instructors etc). Wendy is ready to collaborate to optimise your health. Frequently Asked Questions What to expect Your osteopathic manual therapy session includes a health history, an osteopathic therapeutic assessment and a manual treatment. Clients wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes. Gentle hands on treatment will be performed over the top of your clothes or on exposed skin. Treatment progresses from movement and mobilizations to more gentle release techniques to bring your body into a relaxed state for the end of the session. What is the difference between Wendy’s manual osteopathy and physiotherapy treatments? Wendy’s manual therapy approach is the same and incorporates the whole body for both her manual osteopathy and physiotherapy treatments. Some physiotherapist will use modalities as part of their treatment approach (therapeutic ultrasound, electrical modalities (TENS/ IFC/ biofeedback) traction machines etc. Wendy however focuses her time on manual therapy techniques and rarely uses modalities. Wendy enjoys collaborating with other physiotherapists and health care providers to compliment her hands-on approach.
