Areas of Specialization: Sports Medicine, Active Release Technique, Dry Needling, Graston Dr. Sandra McGourty was born and raised in New Jersey with three sisters in a competitive natured, athletic, health driven, and loving family. She was drawn to chiropractic after enduring a spinal injury as a young high level gymnast. Through chiropractic care she was able to recover and remain healthy while playing softball, volleyball, gymnastics and track throughout high school. Her positive experience with chiropractic sports medicine paired with her passion for helping others is what inspired her to become a chiropractic physician. Dr. McGourty received her Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from East Carolina University. She then went on to earn her Doctorate in Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Port Orange, FL. Dr. McGourty is Board Certified by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners in chiropractic and physiotherapy and licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine. She is a full body certified provider of Active Release Technique. She is also certified in Dry Needling and Graston Technique. Dr. McGourty utilizes these techniques in conjunction with Diversified Technique adjustments, extremity adjustments, physiotherapy exercises, kinesiotaping, and passive modalities to successfully treat a multitude of musculoskeletal conditions. These conditions include sports injuries, repetitive stress/strain injuries, motor vehicle accident injuries, postural/biomechanical disorders, and expecting mothers with pregnancy related pain. Dr. McGourty has been practicing in Virginia for almost ten years helping thousands of patients manage their health problems, so that they can continue doing the things they love. She enjoys continuing her education by attending seminars to stay current on the most recent developments in chiropractic and rehabilitation treatments. Dr. McGourty is highly motivated to help people reach optimal health and quality of living by promoting the importance of overall wellness. Outside of practice she enjoys spending time with her family/friends and dog, working out, and cooking.
