James is available at the HAMILTON location NOTICE: Construction at the Hamilton location on Monday, May 18. James Zhou (Physiotherapy) will be at Mainland that day — please choose MAINLAND when booking. Growing up with a keen interest in physical activity, mechanics and fixing things, James naturally gravitated towards a career in physiotherapy where he could combine all of the above into his daily life. Along the way, he came into close contact with physical and mental disabilities experienced by people he often interacted with, which led him to commit himself to try to relieve suffering in any way he could and grow to be a healer more so than a fixer. Empowering clients with the ability to heal themselves is a large part of his approach, as he educates them on how to be their own therapist as much as possible through corrective exercise and other self-management strategies while incorporating manual therapy, acupuncture and electrotherapy where appropriate. James has experience treating various conditions, including soft-tissue injuries, postural/biomechanical dysfunction, post-surgical recovery, chronic pain and stroke. He is especially well-acquainted with the elderly population, having worked in multiple care homes as a volunteer, rehab assistant and physiotherapist over the past decade. He is also familiar with children, youth and adults with special needs through professional and social relationships. He has been actively involved with the Developmentally Challenged Youth Basketball Association throughout his studies and career.
