My Story: How I Became A Chiropractor I was born and raised in rural Wisconsin. I lived on a farm and worked construction in my early years and so, I understand and appreciate the toll taken on a body in labor-intensive environments. I know what hard work and dedication are, as well as the injuries that are their direct (or indirect) result. As a high school and collegiate athlete, I experienced many physical injuries, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) at age 15. After the ACL reconstructive surgery, my chiropractor helped me rehabilitate my knee, as well as correct the whole-body dysfunctions that followed the surgery. Four years later, while I was working on an ecological study monitoring bats (yes, the nocturnal flying creatures) I experienced an episode of sciatica caused by lifting my canoe out of the water with improper posture. Having been treated by traditional medical interventions (pain killers, muscle relaxants, corticosteroid injections, etc.) in the past with limited relief, I decided to visit my Wisconsin chiropractor and found relief for the first time in over three months. Within two weeks, my sciatic issues were gone! This was the defining moment for me, the one that led me on the journey of a lifetime, pursuing my education and career as a Doctor of Chiropractic.
