Dr. Renee Doddington PT, DPT, COMT grew up in Panama City, Florida and chose to pursue a career in physical therapy after witnessing the life-changing impact PT’s had on a close friend who nearly lost his life in a car accident. This, combined with her background in dance/ballet, made a career in restoring proper physical movement the perfect choice. She attended the University of Florida where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Health Science in 2004, and then continued her education at UF, earning her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2007. Since moving to Atlanta to begin her PT career, she has gained extensive clinical experience in a variety of outpatient orthopedic/sports medicine clinic settings. She has treated patients of all ages/skill levels, ranging from middle schoolers with growing pains to the elderly trying to maintain their mobility and independence as well as general orthopedic conditions, post-operative patients, overuse injuries, postural dysfunction and cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine injuries. She has experience in treating athletes of all levels, from “weekend warriors” to athletes trying to return to/maintain their professional status (NFL, WNBA, NHL, stunt performers, etc.). Renee has a strong interest in manual therapy and takes a very hands-on approach to treating her patients. She earned the distinction of Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (COMT) through the Maitland approach, which uses a structured assessment and treatment process while incorporating patient goals and values, with constant reassessment/refinement of techniques throughout the treatment process determined by both physiology/biomechanics and most importantly patient response. She has been certified in Trigger Point Dry Needling since 2012, and has completed hundreds of hours of continuing education throughout her career through the Maitland Institute, Kineticore, Mulligan Concepts, Emory and Mercer Schools of Medicine, Academy of Orthopedic Physical Therapy, Kevin Wilk, Mike Reinhold, Institute of Physical Art, Manual Therapy Institute and others. She has regularly acted as a clinical instructor for Doctor of Physical Therapy students during their clinical rotations. She belongs to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) in which she is a member of the Orthopedic and Sports Sections as well as the Performing Arts Special Interest group. She is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT). When she is not working, Renee enjoys staying active, cycling, traveling, playing with her sweet Rottweiler Bailey, cheering on her beloved Gators, and is an avid advocate for raising awareness and research funds for the Alzheimer’s Association.
