Jen has been a Registered Massage Therapist since 2007, after graduating from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy (WCCMT) Victoria. She started working at Alberni Massage Therapy in 2023 after having operated two private practices in the West Kootenays and Similkameen Valley. Jen’s clinical interest is in the treatment and management of persistent pain. Her study and practice has evolved to align with current RMT research and best practices in order to provide optimal outcomes for clients. Jen’s treatments use current evidence and science based best practices for the proper selection and application of manual therapies. Treatments are in accordance to Pain Science as the medical community now understands it. She considers the framework of the Biopsychosocial Model of Pain (physical, psychological and social aspects of pain) for each individual. Treatments are quiet, intentional and calming, using a soothing slow pace to regulate the nervous system and decrease tissue sensitivity. When appropriate, treatments can also include targeted, point specific pressure and integrate movement and awareness on the table. Jen believes and practices the “The 4 Doctors” tiered approach to wellness. Dr. Quiet (sleep, rest, rejuvenation), Dr. Diet (adequate nutritional support), Dr. Movement (working out/ expending energy, working within/ building energy), and Dr. Happiness (living a life that aligns with one’s core values). She’s an avid lover of music, books, and movies, plays with strength training, Qi Gong, Yoga and Feldenkrais, and enjoys spending quality time with friends, family and nature, as well as the occasional kitchen dance party.
