Acupuncturist and Herbalist NOTE: Rachel is not currently in the BCBSIL network. This time-honored medicine, philosophy, and lifestyle have enthralled Rachel ever since she began seeking the meditative martial arts of Wudang, which are based in Traditional Chinese Medicine principles, to help her avoid shoulder surgery. During that journey, she also received TCM herbal formulas that effectively reversed her insomnia. Upon returning to the United States, she completed her Master of Science in Acupuncture, with a Specialization in Chinese Herbal Medicine. Her experience as a practitioner continues revealing to her, not only the profound ability of this medicine to heal and harmonize the mind, body, and spirit - but to raise our standards of wellbeing, and cultivate a higher quality of life - for those seeking more robust longevity, and thriving, vibrant health.
Your first acupuncture visit is a comprehensive session designed to understand your unique health concerns and create a personalized treatment plan. The appointment typically begins with a detailed consultation, where your practitioner reviews your medical history, lifestyle, and current symptoms. You may be asked questions about sleep, digestion, stress, and energy levels to gain a full picture of your overall well-being. The practitioner will also perform traditional diagnostic assessments such as pulse reading and tongue observation to evaluate the flow of Qi (vital energy) and identify any underlying imbalances. Based on this evaluation, a customized treatment plan is developed to address both your symptoms and their root causes. During the acupuncture treatment, fine, sterile needles are gently inserted at specific points along the body’s meridians. Most patients feel little to no discomfort—many experience a deep sense of relaxation or mild tingling as the body responds to the therapy. The needles are typically retained for 25 minutes while you rest quietly. Please plan on being here for about one and a half hours but treatment lengths vary depending on what is required.
