Rosemarie’s earliest memory of running was about age 12 with her brother along the prairie roads in Alberta. Running is still her first love when it comes to activities, for the exercise and the love of the discovery along the trail (berries, creeks, sacred trees, fungi, wildflowers, wild weather and skies). She is awed by the beauty of this island. While attending UBC for her Master of Physical Therapy, she would run the trails to the lookout towards Vancouver Island, visualizing her new life and career on the Island. This vision was realized in 2010 upon graduation. Prior to her Physical Therapy degree, she had graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Human Kinetics at UBC. Rosemarie worked as a personal trainer and it was her curiosity of her clients with complex medical conditions that led her to a career and passion for physiotherapy. A varied life of travel, boating BC’s west coast, an early insurance career with other life sandwiched in there, informs her compassionate curiosity of each individual she meets. The most important element of Rosemarie’s clinical practice is the relationships that she builds with her patients. Each patient needs to be heard, as their injury or issue is unique to them. The path to reach their goals is different for each patient. Treatment provided by Rosemarie is made for the individual, guided by her skills and knowledge. She strives for a patient-oriented, holistic, compassionate and collaborative practice. Rosemarie is a lifelong learner. The areas that have been the foundation of her practice are movement / exercise, orthopedic manual skills, anatomical acupuncture and pelvic health for men and women. Pain education and management is a guiding principle. She is also trained in Vestibular Rehabilitation, CranioSacral therapy, VisceroFascial mobilization, MyoFascial Release (JFB), Hypopressives. Pelvic health physiotherapy became a passion for Rosemarie when she took her first Pelvic Health Solutions course in early 2011. She has obtained training and experience in treating women and men with incontinence, pelvic pain, and a variety of pelvic floor dysfunctions, including pregnancy-related issues, diastasis rectus abdominis, pelvic organ prolapse, including pessary fitting, gastro-intestinal disorders, and mobilization of the visceral-fascia urinary system. She is also trans gender-informed. Rosemarie wants postpartum women in all phases of life to return to the activities that bring them joy or develop a passion for a new physical expression in a healthy, successful fashion. Male pelvic health has been a regular component of Rosemarie’s practice since 2011. Her male patients have been her best educators, and she continues to expand her knowledge of, through course work, and ongoing self education. Outside of the clinic, Rosemarie not only enjoys trail running, but also kayaking, hiking, cycling…and fresh local produce!
