Maya is a Certified Athletic Therapist with an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Health Sciences. She is passionate about empowering individuals to take control of their recovery by addressing not just the injury but the whole person behind it. Maya recognizes that true healing goes beyond simply treating symptoms—every aspect of a person’s life, from mental health and nutrition to hydration and past injuries, plays a role in the recovery process. Maya’s philosophy revolves around uncovering the root cause of pain rather than offering temporary relief. She believes that by understanding the person behind the pain, she can develop personalized treatment plans that lead to lasting results. Maya’s wealth of experience spans working with diverse populations, including junior hockey players, university and college athletes, the general population, and professional CFL players. Regardless of the environment, Maya’s greatest joy is guiding her patients through the entire cycle of recovery—from injury prevention and immediate care to rehabilitation and ultimately returning to peak performance. Her approach blends hands-on manual therapy techniques with an emphasis on movement, believing wholeheartedly that “movement is medicine.” Maya has a particular interest in concussions, sport-specific injuries, and acute trauma, but her expertise extends to supporting individuals of all ages and activity levels, from young athletes as young as 7 to active adults in their 70s. Whether she’s conditioning athletes to minimize injury risk or providing emergency care on the sidelines, Maya thrives in dynamic environments where her skills and knowledge keep her at the forefront of athletic care. Some of her favorite settings include hockey, football, and soccer, where she enjoys being right in the action, maintaining her taping and emergency response skills from the best seat in the game—on the bench! When she’s not in the clinic or on the sidelines, Maya stays active by exploring a variety of physical pursuits. She enjoys golfing, hiking, and experimenting with new activities like yoga, spin, snowboarding, softball, and soccer. Her love for staying active and trying new things gives her a deep understanding of the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle, which she brings to her practice every day. Maya’s empathetic nature, combined with her diverse experience and dedication to lifelong learning, makes her an invaluable partner in anyone’s healing journey. Whether you’re an athlete aiming for peak performance or an individual aiming to regain mobility and quality of life, Maya is ready to support you every step of the way.
