I have been a licensed Massage Therapist for 18 almost 19yrs now and I started my career in my home town of Charlotte, NC. I have often gotten asked two questions throughout my career, “how did you get into massage?” and “what type of massage(s) do I specialize in or what is my specialty?”. I simply tell them my mom was the one who told me, as I was massaging her shoulders one day lol, that I had a gift and I needed to do something about. I did not think to much about it at first, but once I went to an an open house at Southeastern Institute (now named Southeastern College) I knew that I was where I needed to be and as they say, “the rest was history!” and I haven’t looked back. I enjoy how the human body works and being able to give someone back their mobility and educate them on their bodies, has been my driving force for the past 18 almost 19yrs. This is why I’ve never been able to give a definitive answer to my specialty. Through the knowledge and tools I’ve picked up throughout my career, I’ve been able to customize a massage for my individual clients bodily needs. If something is out of my scope of practice, then I have no problem referring my clients to another professional that can assist them further.
