Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a therapeutic practice rooted in ancient Chinese medicine, a healing system that has been in use for thousands of years. Central to Chinese medicine is the concept of qi (pronounced "chee"), a vital energy that flows through pathways in the body known as meridians. Each meridian is associated with a specific organ or group of organs that regulate various bodily functions. Proper flow of qi is believed to promote health and well-being. This energy maintains the balance of yin and yang, two complementary forces present in all things in nature. An imbalance in qi—whether through excess, deficiency, or blockage—can lead to illness. To restore harmony, the practitioner places thin needles at specific points along the meridians, where the energy pathways are close to the skin’s surface.
