Ibukun Afolabi
The Mama's Physio
408 Queens Avenue, London, ON, N6B 1X9
Ibukun (Ibbie) is an experienced physiotherapist with a passion for women's whole health and wellness. Her clinical expertise lies in perinatal rehabilitation and childbirth. Practicing for over 20 years, Ibukun has grown as a trauma-informed, integrative pelvic physiotherapist, as an individual, and as a mama to five incredible children - all of whom she birthed at home. Her personal and professional experiences led her to become certified as a childbirth educator, a doula, and a Spinning Babies Aware Practitioner. She is a lover of learning, continually upgrading her knowledge and training. Ibukun is a sought after speaker who has presented seminars, workshops and conferences for women, communities, and health professionals. She provides mentorship for new physiotherapists and has instructed with Doula Canada, Reframe Rehab, and Physio-Plus. Ibukun is one of London's original pelvic physiotherapists; her leadership and advocacy efforts helped pelvic health awareness spread and gain momentum in her city, and she has observed the evolution of pelvic health over the past 1.5 decades. She progressively built London's largest pelvic health practice to date where she and her team of physios helped women of all ages navigate a wide variety of pelvic health conditions and experience transformation. Ibukun is an authority on all things at the intersection of pelvic and perinatal health. Following the birth of her 5th child, Ibukun shifted her practice to serve women in their pre/postnatal season exclusively. She has had the honour of sitting with thousands of women, hearing their stories, and teaching them to discover their inner capacity. Ibukun approaches her clients as nuanced, whole, embodied beings - recognizing that health is a convergence and expression of the physical, emotional, psychological, and relational realms of a woman's life. She believes that women's bodies are not broken but are brimming with potential to create interior health and deep wellness. Her work invites clients to trust the embedded wisdom of their bodies, to learn and interpret the language of their bodies, to work with their bodies, and to step into their power as women with agency - here to live fully and freely. Ibukun feels called to this deeply meaningful work and finds joy in her vocation. Outside of clinical practice, you'll find Ibbie homesteading, making music, creatively writing, or having all kinds of fun with her family. For current clients who worked with The Mama's Physio during recent pregnancy: this will be your first in-person session after giving birth. Ideally book for around 6 weeks postpartum. We will debrief the birth, complete a physical evaluation, and explore treatment recommendations from there. Your baby is most welcome!
