The lymphatic system is also known as the body's garbage disposal, collecting waste in the form of dead cells and toxins, then processing and disposing of that waste (aka lymph). When there is excess waste or a blockage in the flow of lymph, swelling occurs. MLD uses light, rhythmic strokes to open pathways, located just below the epidermis. MLD is often used to reduce swelling in clients post-surgical and post-acute injury.
