Dr. Peter Quinn, founder and former clinic director of Saanich Centre Chiropractic Plus, has practiced in Victoria since 1992. He provides evidence-informed care for acute and chronic pain, numbness, tingling, and tension due to car crashes, and sports and workplace injuries. He also offers supportive and preventative care and advice for repetitive strains, postural imbalances, and other daily stress factors. Treatments may include the following: Chiropractic adjustments using various techniques (Diversified, Drop Table, Activator, Accustim) that deal with various motion abnormalities of spinal and extremity joints. Deep tissue adhesion release using ART (Active Release Techniques) to free up scar tissue knots which restrict nerves, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Cold Laser Therapy (Photobiomodulation) to limit inflammation and speed healing. Demonstration of targeted stretching and strengthening exercises to be done at home. Nutritional counseling aimed at reducing inflammation and cartilage damage and optimizing overall health. Born and raised in Montreal, Dr. Quinn swam competitively in his youth and played baseball, football, and hockey. Later, he worked as a lifeguard and swimming instructor. He played junior hockey under coach Jacques Demers, who coached the Montreal Canadiens to the Stanley Cup in 1993. The following year, he received a scholarship to attend Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, where he earned a BA in Psychology. As a senior, he was voted captain of Dartmouth’s varsity hockey team. During his first career teaching high school math and science near Montreal, he began to suffer severe lower back pain and sciatica due to a hockey injury. Luckily, a colleague referred him to a local chiropractor, and after a course of treatment, he made a full recovery. This experience so inspired him that he decided to pursue the four-year Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree. In 1991, he graduated summa cum laude and was the class salutatorian at Life Chiropractic College West in California. In 1992, he completed post-doctoral studies in diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries. In 2010, he trained with the Titleist Performance Institute studying specialized techniques and therapies for golfers. While practicing full-time in Victoria, he taught courses in bone and joint pathology, and musculoskeletal anatomy and kinesiology at local colleges. A long time student of yoga and Tai Chi, he also plays golf, table tennis and pickleball, and enjoys choral singing and playing guitar in a folk-rock band. Along with lake swims and nature hikes, his fitness regime includes low-impact workouts at the gym. He serves on several boards and committees. He enjoys taking the time to listen to his patients.
