The art is said to have originated in the lands of China, Egypt, and India and has its basis in the belief that reflex points on the soles of the feet correspond to the various organs and parts of the body. For example, the inner edge of the foot has points relating to the spine and back, while the eyes, ears, and sinuses are represented on the pads of the toes.
