Lymphatic Drainage
Manual lymph drainage (MLD) is a hands on massage technique designed to assist the functioning of the lymph system. The lymph system consists of circulatory vessels throughout the body which remove excess fluid, bacteria, viruses, and waste products from the tissues of the body. If the lymph system is damaged or taxed, it is unable to return the fluid to the bloodstream and swelling will appear. MLD is a gentle and rhythmical massage treatment that promotes the circulation of this fluid. The treatment helps cleanse connective tissue of inflammatory materials, enhances the immune system, decreases pain, and helps settle the parasympathetic nervous system. From this, it assists the healing of injuries, chronic conditions, inflammation, and edema (swelling).
