Dr. Emily Calligan was born and raised in a suburb outside of Detroit, Michigan. She grew up swimming, participating in triathlons, playing lacrosse and weight lifting. She attended Grand Valley State University where she obtained her bachelor’s in exercise science with a clinical emphasis. She then went on to pursue her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Oakland University. Throughout her graduate work and professional career, Dr. Emily Calligan has worked with a variety of musculoskeletal populations and is experienced in handling sports specific injuries, pre and post operative patients, and patients with neurological deficits. Dr. Emily Calligan’s passion is to treat patients in order to restore their mobility, strength and function so they can get back to doing the things they love. She enjoys working with a broad population and working as a team with the patient in order to achieve their specific goals. She does this with a variety of techniques including manual work, functional massage, Graston technique, kinesiotaping and a variety of other Orthopedic Manual Therapy techniques (OMPT). Additionally, Dr. Emily is certified in Integrative and Neurologic Dry Needling (IDN), which is beneficial in the treatment of systemic soft tissue pain and dysfunction.

Physical Therapy Initial Exam

A comprehensive one-on-one assessment designed to get to the root cause of your pain or movement limitations. This 60-minute initial exam includes a functional movement screen, muscle strength testing, and muscle length and mobility assessments to identify imbalances and movement dysfunctions. Based on these findings, we create a customized treatment plan tailored to your goals—so you can move better, feel stronger, and get back to doing what you love with confidence.
