Dr. Laura McLaren has always had a passion for science but she has always had a pull to the artistic side as well. Knowing that science was important to her, she attended the University of Guelph and graduated with an honours degree in biology in 1992. With the encouragement of her own chiropractor, she went on to attend the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and graduated in 1996 with both clinic and academic honours. She has realized that chiropractic allows her to blend the science with the art. Although the roots of chiropractic are in the science of the body and its physiology, the use of the hands to apply the techniques is truly an art. Upon graduating, she spent her first few years practicing in Scarborough but soon moved to Richmond Hill and has been practicing here ever since. Dr. McLaren uses a diversified approach to treatment, blending different chiropractic styles to tailor the ideal treatment for the patient. She does manual adjusting, activator, soft tissue techniques including fascial release and trigger point therapy. She will incorporate modalities such as laser phototherapy and microcurrent when needed. She often incorporates nutritional recommendations and supplementation as well as homeopathic remedies. She is also a certified C.A.T.S. practitioner which involves working on the bones of the skull to ensure their correct position thus improving blood flow to the brain. This technique has many positive effects but is particularly helpful with migraines, concussions, learning disabilities, and has shown to be helpful with ADD/ADHD. Dr. McLaren has been part-time faculty at the chiropractic college since her fourth year at school and enjoys immensely working with the students.
