Calyx Donna Kuprowski approaches Chinese medicine as a lifelong study of nature: a symphony of elements, meridians, organs and processes. Patterns in nature and their seasonal cycles can correlate with how we observe and diagnose the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. When change comes to our lives, whether through hormonal cycles, pain, fatigue, chronic conditions, or unanticipated emotions, it is helpful to have a collaborator who is skilled in observing, listening, asking questions, and applying knowledge from this lens of Chinese medicine. Calyx earned dual degrees in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncture and Western Phytotherapy (Clinical Herbalism) from Pacific Rim College. Calyx values compassion and confidentiality, while fostering an intelligent understanding of our strengths and wounds. Prior to her acupuncture studies, Calyx co-facilitated therapeutic nature excursions for youth in addiction and mental health recovery, giving her the tools to navigate the terrain of peoples’ significant life events. Calyx’s background in bodywork [TCM Tui Na (meridian massage), Ayurvedic marma point massage, basic Swedish effleurage, and level one Jin Shin Do acupressure] and art (B.FA., Emily Carr University of Art + Design), have led Calyx to appreciate the creative, dynamic, and interdependent processes of being alive. The body is the meeting ground of physiological, psychological processes and environmental factors that contribute to your whole health picture. Calyx creates an atmosphere in the treatment room where you have the potential to return to your original nature (yuan benxing).
