Shelly Prosko, PT, C-IAYT, PCAYT Hi I’m Shelly Prosko! I am a physiotherapist, yoga therapist, educator, author and pioneer of PhysioYoga . In 1990, I was introduced to yoga and it quickly became a passion as it fit well with my background as a professional figure skater, dancer and overall lover of mindful movement. Yoga also resonated with my personality of being deeply reflective, curious, playful and explorative with a desire to be more self-aware and connect more meaningfully with others (and myself)! I started integrating yoga practices and principles into my physiotherapy practice immediately upon receiving my physiotherapy degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1998. Over the past few decades, I have continued to advance my knowledge and skills with many in-depth trainings, ongoing clinical experience, contributing to academic research and being on faculty and guest lecturing in physical therapy and yoga therapy programs across North America. Over the years, I have valued and enjoyed working with many different populations in a wide variety of clinical settings in Alberta, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and in the United States including sports medicine, orthopedics, pelvic health, chronic pain, geriatrics and long term care. In 2012, my role as a continuing education provider for healthcare professionals and academic writer grew. I took on several roles as faculty and guest lecturer at numerous yoga therapy and physical therapy schools across North America, while maintaining a small clinical practice here in Sylvan Lake. I am co-editor/author of the book Yoga and Science in Pain Care: Treating the Person in Pain and have authored several book chapters in yoga therapy and integrative rehabilitation textbooks. Currently, I continue to enjoy presenting at medical conferences, contributing to academic research and teaching physiotherapists about various ways to enhance their skills in the area of whole-person care in pelvic health and chronic pain care. However, one of my greatest passions professionally is in providing services and resources for the general population, including group classes and individual sessions, particularly in the areas of pelvic health, chronic pain and healthy aging. I’m very excited to now be a part of the wonderful team at Sylvan Lake Physical Therapy & Sports Injury Clinic and be of service to this community where I reside and that I love! I consider myself a lifelong student and want to emphasize the immense value gained from clinical experience and learning from the patients I serve, the professionals I teach, and the colleagues with which I collaborate. I love music, dance and spending quality time with family and friends. I believe that meaningful connections, spending time in nature and sharing joy can be powerful contributors to healing and well-being. Physiotherapy Treatment: PhysioYoga Approach

Physiotherapy Treatments using a PhysioYoga approach are for returning patients who have had an Initial Physiotherapy Assessment using the PhysioYoga approach, or who are currently undergoing physiotherapy treatment at the clinic. If you are a new patient to the clinic, or have a new injury, or have not seen the physiotherapist within the past 6 months, please schedule an assessment. Physiotherapy treatments using the PhysioYoga approach include exploring yoga-based practices such as active and facilitated therapeutic mindful movement, awareness practices, breathing practices, mindfulness practices, as well as therapeutic education, traditional physiotherapy exercises, and development of an individualized home program. Education on principles and potential lifestyle modifications relevant to your needs and values are explored. Sessions may include physiotherapy manual therapy techniques as indicated. An essential part of your PhysioYoga experience is that we take a whole-person approach to your rehabilitation or health maintenance program. The intention is to provide you with the tools and support to regain your sense of agency, empowerment, self-efficacy and confidence in your path forward to living well again.
