I have practiced as an RN for decades and have been a licensed acupuncturist for fourteen years. I was first exposed to this ancient art of acupuncture while on a cycling trip to China in the late 1980’s. In Shanghai, our group was privileged to visit a traditional Chinese hospital where surgeries were being performed without anesthesia. Instead of an anesthesiologist, an acupuncturist assisted the surgeon by carefully placing acupuncture needles along specific meridian sites. It was explained to us that this was to control pain and provide comfort for the patient. The patient appeared to be relaxed as they chatted amiably with their providers. This experience left a profound impression on me as a new RN, and I never forgot it. During my nursing career, I primarily worked in critical care settings. In the recent past, I have worked both in an RN and acupuncturist role at local Pain Management clinics. If has been through this exposure that I have developed a deep interest in pain control methods. Pain not only distracts, but it can impact all bodily functions, including one’s psyche, and rob a person of their enjoyment of life. As a nurse, I recognize that a person’s pain experience is a deeply personal one. As a TCM trained provider (traditional Chinese medicine), I treat the person as a whole, as everything is indeed connected. The body has an innate intelligence and “wants” to be at optimum health. As acupuncturists we are essentially working with body’s nervous system, and through selective needle placement, we can potentiate the healing process that the body already “knows” how to do. Many health conditions, as well as the maintaining of optimum health, are treated sucessfully with acupuncture, It is an amazing, ancient, healing practice..
Relieve pain and accelerate healing naturally with Susan’s integrated treatments. By precisely placing ultra-fine needles into specific acupoints, this stimulates the nervous system to release endorphins—the body's natural painkillers—while enhancing blood flow to reduce inflammation. During a session, needles are left in place briefly, sometimes causing a mild tingling sensation. Susan has extensive knowledge as an acupuncturist and nurse.
