Paul Saal B. Sc.PT Registered Physiotherapist Paul was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario. After competing high school, he moved to Ottawa to attend University and in 1996 graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy program. After graduating University, he worked for a few years in Niagara Falls and then his hometown of Sudbury before relocating to Pembroke. Since graduating physiotherapy school, Paul has maintained a focus on helping individuals suffering from painful musculoskeletal problems. To complement the knowledge and skills obtained from his university physiotherapy education, he has also extensively studied osteopathic theory and techniques, manual therapy, massage and soft tissue release techniques, acupuncture, spine health and injury rehabilitation, as well as hand rehabilitation. In addition to his academic and clinical education regarding the human body, Paul has been a lifelong participant in sport and exercise. He has studied martial arts, has participated in rock climbing and back country adventures. Has trained and competed in the endurance sports of cycling, running, and triathlons up to the ironman distance. Now, as an ageing athlete, he continues to participate in endurance cycling events and maintains a mobility and strength training regimen. The personal experience gained from this participation, along with the training, and physical challenges that go along with these have provided him with real world self-embodied knowledge of injures and the healing process. The academic, clinical and personal real-world experience to injury has also led to a desire to better understand the psycho-emotional consequences of injury, pain, and physical dysfunction. Towards this end, Paul has extensively studied and practiced mindfulness and meditation, has maintained a daily practice of these, and is currently enrolled in a multi=year program which blends the study of contemplative techniques and western psychology modalities. Paul believes that learning in a lifelong journey and that we live in an incredible time when the fields of study to understand and help alleviate human suffering are growing rapidly and he feels fortunate to be able to participate in the endeavor.
