Slade Manes (pronounced Manus) was born in Baton Rouge, LA on Nov. 5, 1979. He attended Catholic High School, playing football while there. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from LSU in 2002, then attended Medical Training College where he earned a Massage Therapy diploma. His NeuroMuscular Therapy (‘Deep Tissue’) instructor, Steve Thomas, was an understudy to Janet Travell, the woman who developed the technique and literally wrote the books on Deep Tissue. He graduated as valedictorian of his massage class and gave the benediction speech at graduation. Additionally, Slade has been blessed with the gift of touch. This, combined with 12+ years of experience, make him an excellent massage therapist. He migrated to Austin in 2004, quickly falling in love with the music, nature, and the culture. In 2006, Slade furthered his education at AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine. After taking two breaks- one to take care of a sick grandmother and once to be a stay-at-home dad, he eventually earned his dual Masters degree: Masters of Science in Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine (M.S.Ac.O.M.). Slade maintains state licenses and national certifications in both acupuncture and massage. He makes Chinese herbal tinctures locally and in small batches. He is also a certified Supreme Science Qigong Foundation Level 1 Form facilitator. He is also certified by Kinetacore in Functional Dry Needling. Slade’s focus outside of work is his family. His wife is a physician assistant for a urology group in Austin. They have two children, Edi and Ethan. Personally, he enjoys music, cooking, good food, travel, hiking, camping, disc golf, and anything outdoors (especially water-related activities). Slade follows LSU football, and during big games, he manages blood pressure spikes with good bourbon.
